On Thursday 30 July 2020, the PW2PA Alliance held its first Community Information session on the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication Project. More than 50 people came along to the Institute Theatre in Port Augusta to hear about the project.
A number of information stations were set up around the room, allowing attendees to view artist impressions of the project, collect fact sheets and ask questions about the topics that they were most interested in.
Feedback was mainly very positive, with many people saying the project was “long overdue” and that duplication of the bridge would deliver safety improvements for pedestrians and improve traffic flow across the bridge.
There was an enthusiastic reception to the fact that the existing bridge would remain open while the new bridge was being constructed. There was also a lot of positive interest in the public art opportunities for the project, and support for the proposed location of the art works.
Some queries were raised regarding access during construction, pedestrian access and safety with the Shared Use Path and at the Mackay Street intersection, and maintenance of the Jervois Street underpass. While several of these issues were addressed immediately, others have been raised with the PW2PA Project team and updates will be provided.
The majority of attendees enjoyed the evening’s format, found it helpful in better understanding the project, and expressed interest in attending future events.
The PW2PA Alliance would like to thank everyone who attended and for the valuable feedback provided. It was wonderful to meet so many interested community members and we look forward to hosting the next Community Information session later this year. If you’d like to attend future Information sessions, please check the website for dates or sign up for project updates.
