On Thursday 13 August 2020, the PW2PA Alliance held a Community Information Session on the Port Wakefield Overpass and Highway Duplication Project. Sixty people attended the Eagles Sports & Community Centre in Port Wakefield to find out more about the project.
At the session, PW2PA Alliance team members staffed information stations that allowed attendees to move about the room to view artist impressions and plans of the project and ask questions about their specific areas of interest. Discussion focused on the project design and its likely impacts and benefits for the local community.
Feedback about the proposed overpass was very positive, with many people acknowledging the safety improvements it will deliver. There was a lot of positive interest in the town park and public art opportunities for the project, and their proposed locations. Local business representatives also expressed enthusiasm for initiatives designed to promote and support the town centre.
Queries were raised regarding general impacts during construction, access to businesses and parking, the direction and flow of traffic including u-turn facilities for heavy vehicles, and maintaining access for emergency services. Most of these queries were addressed on the day but all feedback has been provided to the PW2PA Project team and updates will be provided.
Most attendees agreed that the session Improved their knowledge of the project and they would be interested in attending similar events.
The PW2PA Alliance would like to thank everyone who attended and for the interesting discussions and valuable feedback. It was a great opportunity to meet members of the local community and we look forward to hosting another Port Wakefield Community Information session later in the year.
