Changes to Traffic on Augusta Highway

BETWEEN TILBROO RD (Beaufort) & CATFORD RD (Nantawarra)

What’s happening

Speed and lane restrictions are in place from Saturday 20 June

As part of ongoing maintenance observations, a section of pavement on the northbound lanes of the Augusta Highway (between Tilbroo Road, Beaufort and Catford Road, Nantawarra) is showing signs of deterioration. To ensure the safety of all road users, part of the northbound lane in this section will be closed until investigations can be undertaken and remediations can be arranged.

One lane will remain open at all times and wide vehicles will be accommodated. No detours are required. Speed and lane restrictions will remain in place until the end of June . Please take care when travelling through the area. Access to properties will be maintained.

Why is this happening?

This work falls within the standard defect liability period for newly constructed roads, during which the Alliance monitors pavement performance and undertakes any necessary remediation to ensure the highway meets required safety, durability and performance standards.

Fast facts

Q: Why is a newly built road already deteriorating?

A: It’s common for some pavement settlement or minor defects to emerge in the months after construction, as the road is exposed to traffic loads and weather. This is exactly why a defect liability period exists: to identify and fix any issues early before they affect long-term performance.

Q: What does “wide vehicles will be accommodated” mean?

A: No detours are required. Wide loads can still travel through the work zone, but operators should contact the project team in advance on 1300 161 407 to arrange safe passage through the restricted section.

Q: How long will this take to fix permanently?

A: Investigations are underway to determine the cause and scope of remediation. We expect restrictions to remain until end of June 2026 and will update the community if that timeframe changes.

Q: Is the road safe to drive on right now?

A: Yes. Speed and lane restrictions have been put in place specifically to maintain safety while works are assessed. One lane remains open at all times.

Q: Will my driveway access be impacted? (For those who live near the speed restricted zone)

A: Access to properties remains open, but please contact the project team on 1300 161 407 to be updated once investigations are completed.
